Barranquilla is strengthening its international connections with new flights to Fort Lauderdale and Madrid, plus a possible future route to New York. These developments will make Colombia’s Caribbean capital easier to reach for tourists, expats, digital nomads, and residents traveling across the Americas and Europe.
Daily Flights to Fort Lauderdale
JetBlue will begin daily nonstop flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Barranquilla’s Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport on October 1.
The new route will serve travelers from South Florida, including Miami, Broward County, and nearby communities. It will also support visitors coming to Barranquilla for Carnival, business events, family trips, and cultural experiences.
For passengers departing from Barranquilla, Fort Lauderdale offers easy access to South Florida’s beaches, shopping areas, cruise terminals, and wider United States connections.
JetBlue’s onboard services include free Wi-Fi, entertainment, snacks, and beverages. Travelers should check the airline’s latest schedule before booking, as flight times and availability may change.
New Barranquilla–Madrid Route
Barranquilla will also gain its first direct connection to Europe later this year.
Air Europa is scheduled to begin nonstop flights between Barranquilla and Madrid on December 18, with three weekly frequencies. The service will link Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport with Madrid-Barajas.
This route will simplify travel between Colombia’s Caribbean coast and Spain. It will also give passengers access to Madrid’s extensive European flight network.
European visitors will have a more convenient gateway to Barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa Marta, and other destinations along Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Meanwhile, residents of the region will find it easier to visit Spain and continue to other European cities.
The new connection could also benefit digital nomads and international residents who divide their time between Colombia and Europe.
Possible Direct Route to New York
Barranquilla Mayor Alejandro Char has announced that the city is working toward a possible nonstop route to New York.
The proposed service would create another important link between Barranquilla and the United States. However, officials have not yet confirmed the airline, airport, launch date, or flight frequency.
Travelers should wait for an official announcement before making plans around the New York route.
With new services to Fort Lauderdale and Madrid, along with a potential New York connection, Barranquilla is becoming an increasingly accessible destination for international travel, business, and tourism.
