Junior Clinches 11th Colombian League Title with Win Over Tolima in Ibagué

Junior de Barranquilla made history last night, securing their 11th Colombian league championship after defeating Deportes Tolima 1–0 away at the Estadio Manuel Murillo Toro in Ibagué. The victory completed a dominant 4–0 aggregate win in the Liga BetPlay II final and punched Junior’s ticket to the 2026 Copa Libertadores group stage.

The decisive goal came in the 17th minute, when standout star José Enamorado seized on a perfectly weighted through ball and calmly finished past Tolima’s goalkeeper. Enamorado was the story of this final: already on the scoresheet twice in the first leg, he finished with three total goals in the series and was rightly named man of the match.

Junior’s path to the title was controlled from the start. In the first leg at Barranquilla’s Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez, they established a commanding 3–0 lead with goals from Enamorado and Bryan Castrillón, setting the tone for the return leg in Tolima.

Despite heavy pressure from Tolima in Ibagué, including multiple attempts from distance and an early momentum push, Junior’s defense — marshaled by veteran experience — held firm. Tolima even saw a player sent off before halftime, yet the visitors managed the game expertly and prevented any realistic comeback.

The win isn’t just a trophy — it’s affirmation of Junior’s growth under coach Alfredo Arias, who praised his squad’s resilience and championship mentality in post-match comments.

With celebrations already erupting across Barranquilla and beyond, Junior’s 2025-II triumph adds another memorable chapter to the club’s rich history in Colombian football.
