Barranquilla’s new Carrusel del Río promises family fun on the Gran Malecón. Announced by Mayor Alejandro Char, this two-level attraction will complement the iconic Luna del Río Ferris wheel.
Construction Progress
The carousel’s foundation is complete, with electrical setup finalized. Installation advances quickly, targeting a public opening in about 30 days from late April 2026. Built from hot-dip galvanized steel with anti-corrosive epoxy paint, it withstands the Magdalena River’s humidity.
Key Features
This unique two-story carousel spins bidirectionally for dynamic rides, featuring vibrant colors, festive lighting, and music. It spans a 16-meter footprint, stands 15.2 meters tall, with a 12-meter turning diameter and fiberglass animal figures in large, medium, and small sizes for kids and adults. Capacity reaches 68 riders per cycle, lasting 14-15 minutes including boarding—serving around 270 children hourly.
Family Appeal
Dubbed the “little brother” of Luna del Río, it enhances the Malecón’s intergenerational vibe with magical, safe play. No ticket prices are announced yet, but it fits Barranquilla’s affordable tourism push alongside the Ferris wheel.
Tourism Boost
Positioned riverside, the Carrusel del Río draws locals and visitors, amplifying the Malecón’s entertainment hub status. Expect it to shine during Carnival season, blending fantasy with panoramic views.
