Barranquilla’s Bosque Urbano de Miramar is now fully open to the public for the community’s enjoyment.
The District of Barranquilla put the space into service as part of the urban forest, offering nearby families a new place for recreation and outdoor activities. The project is expected to benefit around 2,200 residents in the area.
Mayor Alejandro Char said the park was built to give the community a space to enjoy, with children’s play areas, an exercise zone for calisthenics, a plaza, walking paths, seating areas, and wide green spaces. He described it as more than just a park, saying it is a place for families to meet, for children to play, and for the community to stay connected.
Char also highlighted the importance of Bosque Urbano de Miramar as one of the city’s natural assets. He noted that few cities in the world have a dry tropical forest inside the urban area, making it a place where people can exercise, breathe fresh air, and observe the animals that live in the sector.
The new park is located in Barranquilla’s Norte-Centro Histórico area, in the Miramar neighborhood. It covers an area of 725 square meters. It adds to the forest’s existing mountain biking and hiking areas, including a nearly 4.5-kilometer trail.
For residents like Fanny Sánchez, who lives in the area and is the mother of two young children, the park is a welcome addition. She said it gives families a beautiful and safe place for children to enjoy, and a space that parents can feel comfortable using every day.
Hours of Operation: 6:00 am to 5:00 p.m.
The Bosque Urbano de Miramar opened on a limited basis by appointment-only in July 2025.
