The ballet Carmen, presented by the St. Petersburg Classical Ballet, is a one-act ballet adaptation based on the novel of the same name by Prosper Mérimée and the music from Georges Bizet’s opera. The story takes place in Seville, Spain, and revolves around the passion and tragic fate of the characters. It tells the passionate and tragic story of Carmen, a free-spirited and seductive gypsy, and Don José, a soldier who falls deeply in love with her. Initially captivated by Carmen’s charm, Don José abandons his duty and morality, only to be consumed by jealousy when she turns her affections to the bullfighter, Escamillo. Their love spirals into obsession and ultimately ends in tragedy. The ballet captures themes of love, fate, and freedom, with dramatic choreography and Bizet’s evocative music.
The second part of the performance will feature renowned pieces from the world of ballet, such as the Grand Pas from Don Quixote, Swan Lake, and others.
