Rising 65 meters high, Luna del Río stands as a symbol of movement, connection, and transformation. It reflects Barranquilla’s vibrant and evolving spirit.

On Saturday, December 13, 2025, Barranquilla reached a new milestone in its urban transformation. The city officially opened Luna del Río, the largest Ferris wheel in Colombia and one of the biggest in Latin America. Located at the Gran Malecón, it is now a major tourist, cultural, and economic icon.

Mayor Alejandro Char celebrated the opening on social media. He described Luna del Río as a new reason to meet, dream, and fall in love with the city again. Facing the Magdalena River, the attraction strengthens Barranquilla’s vision of building public spaces that invite people to stay, enjoy, and return.

This project reinforces Barranquilla’s reconnection with the Magdalena River. It also introduces a new way to experience the city from above. Visitors enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view that blends nature, public space, and modern urban development.

A New Engine for Tourism and Economic Growth

Luna del Río strengthens tourism as a strategic pillar of Barranquilla’s economy. Estimates project between 150,000 and 200,000 visitors per year. Tourism supports jobs, local entrepreneurship, and value chains. These include transportation, restaurants, hotels, commerce, and creative industries.

During the inauguration, Mayor Char highlighted its economic impact. He said entertainment-driven tourism attracts visitors from around the world. This boosts local gastronomy, retail, hospitality, and tourism. It also promotes nearby beaches, the ecopark, and the Gran Malecón.

Luna del Río Costs and Hours of Operation

Luna del Río operates Tuesday through Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tickets are sold online on Tuboleta.com and on-site. The cost is $15,000 COP per person. Each ride lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes. Cabins are air-conditioned, hold up to 6 people, and safe for families.

A New Icon for Barranquilla

With 44 cabins and capacity for 264 passengers per ride, Luna del Río is a true engineering landmark. Built by Italian company Fabbri Park, the 240-ton structure stands within a 20,000-square-meter area. It anchors new public spaces, green zones, and commercial development. Construction began in September 2025 and was completed in 3 months.

Luna del Río strengthens civic pride and enhances the Gran Malecón. It positions Barranquilla on the global map of cities investing in world-class tourism infrastructure.
